'The Essence of the Vedas'
from the
Taittiriya Upanishad

1. After teaching him the Vedas, the teacher tells the student: "Speak the truth. Do not neglect study. Once you have brought your teacher a gift that is pleasing to him, do not cut off the binding thread. You must not neglect truth. You must not neglect dharma. You must not neglect what is beneficial. You must not neglect prosperity. You must not neglect study and teaching."

2. "You must not neglect your duty to the learned and the anscestors. Hold your mother as god. Hold your father as god. Hold your teacher as god. Hold your guest as god. You must practise only those actions which are irreproachable - no others. You must honor whatever actions are good - no others."

3. "Those Braahmanas who are of a superior order, you must make comfortable by offering a seat. You should give with faith. You should not give without faith. You should give with respect. You should give with modesty. You should give with fear. You should give with feelings of brotherhood."

4. "If there should be doubt about a particular action, or doubt about a particular behavior, you should behave in those circumstances as Braahmanas should behave: with judiciousness, restraint, dedication, gentleness, and with love of dharma. And towards people who are spoken poorly of, you should also then behave as Braahmanas should: with judiciousness, restraint, dedication, gentleness, and with love of dharma."

5. "This is the hidden word. This is the teaching. This is the essence of the Vedas. This is the instruction. You should contemplate it in this way. You must contemplate it in this way."

1. those braahmanas? who is he talking abouth.
2. Embarassed

i have heart the name of the book a few times, but who's book is Taittiriya Upanishad

1. 'Those Braahmanas who are of a superior order': Within the community of Braahmanas, there are some that have achieved more than others through study, meditation, austerity, etc. These deserve much respect.

2. Actually, I don't know who is believed to be the author of the Taittiriya Upanishad. Certainly a Rishi.

and oke, but is the upanishad a book that is reconist by the Arya

1. Do you mean "Who are Braahmanas?"

2. The Arya Samaj considers the 10 Principle Upanishads to be of considerable value in helping to understand the Vedas. These are (in no particular order):

Isha
Kena
Katha
Prashna
Mundaka
Mandukya
Taittiriya
Aitareya
Chhandogya
Brihadaranyaka

I don't think it was a question of authenticity or inauthenticity in regards to the Upanishads. Rather, Swamiji was simply selecting those Upanishads which he saw as being the most useful in understanding Vaidik Dharm. That shouldn't mean that other Upanishads are wholly without value. In some Arya Samaj collections, there are 11 or 13 Upanishads listed, which include Svetasvatara Upanishad. So, I think Swamiji's listing 10 is really more of a suggestion and guideline rather than a strickt pronouncement.
