This is a claim made by many Hindus. Mostly people who believe in the Puranas.
Anyways, what do the Vedas say about fasting?
What is the purpose of fasting?
Is it compulsory?
Is it a sin against God if you don't fast?
I hope I'm not irritating people since I'm creating a new thread almost every day . |

What swami dayananda said, I found it humourous - that we should fast only when we have indigestion _________________

Namaste Shis,
as far as i know fasting like in the islam is not eating before the sun gows down.
and a diet is changing the way of eating. not to much fat or less sugar, that kind of things.
But ofcourse if you need a diet that can help you for you healt. he i am for it _________________ Namaste,

Namaste,
Every thing should not be compared with vedas it is not that easy to understand what vedas are and for what they are meant for. It is not a ? of diet control but when you perform some rituals there are certain procedures or rules to be followed if you are performing some rituals which lasts for 15 days then having a stomach full of dishes will make you fell troublesome for some metabolic activity like farting etc so depending on the kind of ritual you practice you should plan for your diet moreover if you start worshiping you will never fell hunger unless u r done with the rities or your rituals. |

BTW; kishore please use more euphemistic words like 'flatus' for 'fart'. _________________

Very few people know the substitute for fart, I myself had trouble and said 'gas' but that is a prob'matic word. Its not much of a deal, we all make mistakes ^^ _________________
