Even though I'm younger thus more aggressive than you all, I've indulged in nuff debates and agreed to a certain conclusion - punishment is not our duty. Our duty is to reform the society...... As we're all dharmics we should agree that god will punish them nevertheless....

Namaste PD,

Punishment can take many forms. The best form of punishment is that which makes the punished aware of the suffering he or she has caused others. In this, it is hoped that such act will be avoided in the future.

Yet, we also have the duty to prevent suffering where possible. If by punishing someone - say, by incarceration - we can prevent suffering in others, then I think we are certainly justified in doing so.

But ultimately, you both are right. True punishment will be delivered by Karma.

Namaste,

a few questions from a member of another forum(dutch)

1. would you help a person who is poor.

2. is it than helping this people not a bit selfish. meaning is it not just helping to make your self better, and to find moksha.

3. according to hindoeism you have the choice to be good or evil.
suppose you have a bad live in this life, but you dont know anything of your passed life. is this Gods wil (direct or indirect) .is it not to God to makes this punishment go away. We always reincarnate. but if you dont remember your passed life how will you ever learn from it.

4. the first person ever on earth, did he had a passed karma

i hope i have the right topic Razz Razz Razz Razz

Namaste Prabhat,

I'll do my best at giving some answers. Do send them along to your friend and let us know if they help. Or maybe even invite the person to the forum.

1) Yes, I would help a poor person. As the 9th Principle of the Samaj states:

One should not be content with one's own welfare alone, but should look for one's welfare in the welfare of all.

2) Helping the poor is not in itself 'selfish'. But it is very important that we help out of a genuine desire to improve the situation of others. If we act only to 'improve our karma', then not only are we acting dishonestly, we are attaching ourselves to the fruit of that action, which, rather than improving our karma, will more than likely worsten it.

3) We have been given free will. We can choose to make the best of the circumstances prevailing in our lives, or we can choose to act as 'victims' and lay the responsibility at someone else's feet. It doesn't matter if we know about our past lives or not. Everything we could ever need to know about our personal past is facing us in the present right now. The key is seeking virtue in every situation. As long as we do that, then we are learning the lesson.

4) Yes. The cycle of creation, preservation and destruction is eternal.
