Namaste Everyone,

I was reading an article on one of my yahoo groups. I saw pictures of the indentureship database in Guyana ; My eyes were so poor to figure out every word. I notice the caste was listed....so my curiousity strikes and i searched the net and found this interesting pages.

If it wasn't for our guruge where would we be today? If our forth fathers had not left India.....what could have happen to our generations. The caste list goes on from A to Z....I am so shocked. Any INFO where India got the idea of caste system?? Which book implement that practise back in ancient times?

I know catse system still exist in India....It will take many years to change.

Namaste,

i think you will have to know what is a cast.
as far i know everyone was cast by the work they did.
so what is the diffence at this time we live in now, we stil have cast systems in the modern world, but only we call it now rich people and poor people ect ect.

Namaste All,

I was doing some research and came a cross a very interesting passage in an article on Madhvacharya, the founder of Tattvavaada (Dvaita) Vedanta:

Madhva interprets the concept of VarNa mentioned in the Vedas (Purusha Sooktha) as not being defined by birth, but by the nature of a Soul. For example a Soul having the nature of a Brahmin could have been born as a Shudra and vice versa. The caste system decided by birth is actually Jaati and not VarNa. The VarNas simply define the disposition of the Soul, for example a Soul classified as BrahmaNa VarNa is disposed towards learning, a Kshatriya Soul is dispose towards administration and a Shudra Soul is disploed towards performing Service.

Thus, it would seem Arya Samaj has a potential friend in the Tattvavaadins as far as Jati/Varna is concerned.
