Namaste,

The 20th of March is Ugadi/Yugadi/Gudi Padwa festival in South India and also the Arya Samaj Sthaapana Divas ( Foundation Day) according to the Indian calendar.
The new year beginning from today is called the 'Sarvajit'. May it bring peace and prosperity to everyone.

Namaste,

Happy New year to you too, Didi, and to everyone else who is celebrating.

What did you do on your new year?..

p.s. Arya Samaj Foundation Day is celebrated on April 10th in many parts of the world. Maybe they use a different calendar?..

Namaste,
Devo.

Greetings to every one

As mitraji started this topic, Therefore it is misunderstood that it is only telugu new year.

Yugadi means Yug (Age) + Aadi (start) = Yugadi (starting or opening of ages/yug). It is believed that on this day brahmaji the creater, the god, started to creat this world.

As other religions have a new number for their new year, hindu religion has a particular name for every new year. This year name is Sarvajith sanvatsar, and recently passed year name was Vyayanaam sanvatsar. From this day hindu months are starts i.e Chaitra, Vaishakh, Jesth, Bhadrapad…..

In other new years only calendars are changed. But in this new year whole nature changes. All trees in the nature looses its old leaves and new leaves are grown.

(Most of) Hindus always see Muhurtha for arranging marriages, entry for new house, buying new materials/ property. Learned scholars says that in YUGADI, BALIPADYA (DEEPAVALI), AKSHAY TRITIYA, there is no need to see any muhurth. Any hour of these days are pious to arrange the programmes.

In this day People try to know, this new year which things are brought with it. How will be rain and the crop in this new year.

In this day in my area a special drink is being made. With jaggary, with leaves of neem (bitter) tree, mango (nut), and mixing with fruit and dry fruits.

It tells that life is not only with sweet jaggery, it also contains bitter like neem.

In this life happiness and sadness are two faces of the coin. We cannot separate any one from it. Who face the happy, he will definitely face the sorrows. Vice versa.

Before starting the new year we make ready to ourselves to face the both by equal mind. This is the lesson behind this drink.

(we can say it coincide but interesting that, this new year has the name sarvajeet (winning all) at starting day of this new year, Indian cricket team got world record win against Burmuda.)
