You meant dulhan [although dulhan is for male. what you really mean is dulhaniya] Its a north indian tradition, I can't remember any south indian marriage being performed with red clothes... On the other hand I see mostly white with some green.. _________________

Namaste,
I am not sure what the red sari signifies, if it does signify anything. It is probably more of a tradition to wear a red sari. As Nithin said it's more North Indian, since many North Indians were sent out as Indentured labourers ( If I am correct).
Lol, I am not a Hindi speaker, but I am sure that Doolha is the Groom, and Doolhan is the Bride.
Indians outside of India (Particularly in Guyana & Trinidad) often use Dulhin instead of Doolhan, and Dulaha instead of Doolha.
Namaste,
Devo. |

I dont recollect any religious rule about the red colour. It is more cultural where red is associated with suhaagan ( married woman ) , with the kumkum which we use for tilak and sindoor. Kumkum is also made of turmeric again.
In the South brides wear white or yellow sarees with green/ red borders.
The yellow red and green are all associated with haldi and kumkum and which mark a married woman from unmarried woman and the widow. Green stand s for prosperity like we say "evergreen..."
They are all considered auspicious . _________________ Namaste

Namaste Prabhat,
Yes, almost all of them are traditional and considered auspicious or have a symbolic meaning. _________________
