ABOUT SWAMI SATYA PRAKASH SARASWATI:
Swami Satya Prakash, an outstanding man of letters of this generation, was born in 1905 in Bijnor (U.P.). His father Pt. Ganga Prasad Upadhyaya was a distinguished philosopher and a reputed writer. His mother Kala Devi was a pious lady. He received his M.Sc. degree in Chemistry in 1927 and he
had his highest academic science degree D.Sc. in 1932 from the University of Allahabad. He served at this University as Professor and retired in 1967 as the Professor and Head of Dept. of Chemistry. He was the only scientist of India who was jailed in 1942 in the struggle for freedom. He guided 22 students for D.Phil. and D.Sc. degrees and as a scientist he published 150 original research papers in various journals of the world. He worked as First Secretary of the Scientific Research Committee, U.P., Vice President of the Indian Chemical Society, and Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences. In 1971 he entered into the discipline of Sannyasa. He was a trio of dharma, art and science. One of the most versatile writers of modern times he showed in him a unique and charming combination of an artistic and scientific temperament. He was author of many books on science and philosophy. From the depth of religion to the height of science, from the prosaic books of University level to the romance of philosophy, he left no field untouched. He won the Government of India’s prize for his book ‘Samanya Rasayan Shastra’ and several other prizes and medals from various organizations of fame. He was editor of several journals and Chief Editor of the Hindi version of ‘Wealth of India’. Founders of Sciences in Ancient India, Rajyoga, Man and His Religion, Agnihotra - a Chemical Study, Critical Study of Philosophy of Dayananda and English translation of four Vedas (into 18 volumes) etc. are some of his well known works. He widely travelled the world as a scientist and a saint. He passed away in 1995.
