GUYANA The Prabhu Sharan Orphanage located at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, opened its doors recently and is currently home to six children; it has the capacity to house 25 children.
The orphanage, located in the Arya Samaj Mandir compound, was built from contributions from individuals and organizations, according to a press release.
While the orphanage is Hindu-operated children do not have to be of that religion to be accepted, according to an official of the orphanage. However, the religious teaching at the home would be of Hindu origin.
The official also said that the home will also take in underprivileged children and not just orphans. The orphanage is in the process of being registered with the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, the official said. According to the release, the mission of the orphanage is to provide a loving and compassionate home for the children in an environment deeply rooted in the Arya/Hindu Dharma.
Also the orphanage aims to provide spiritual and academic education, vocational and computer training so that the children might reach their potential. |

lol, well with the normal and ordinary people of both groups, yes. There is no tension between the Aryans and Sanaatans.
Believe or not, Guyana is one of the few places in the world where you can have a Mandir, Church, and a Mosque located side by side of each other, and have no tension.

This orphanage is indeed wonderful, not only for Arya Samaj in Guyana but the country in general. It is a remarkable maneuver and whoever thought of it and implemented it, God will bless him/her. _________________ Krinvanto Vishvam Aaryam

I just wanted to share this with you all: There was a cultural show held at the Maharshi Dayanand Gurukul on Saturday November 25, 2006 in order to generate funds to help the children of this orphanage. It was put together by Pandit Gangadinji (I think that's the name) and Pandita Indrowtieji (from MDG). It was a very nice program and was well planned. As of right now, I don't know how much was generated but I know it was very successful. I was a part of it so I just wanted to share what it felt like to those who couldn't make it to be there in person. _________________ Krinvanto Vishvam Aaryam

Namaste,
Thanks for sharing that with us, Amrita. It was nice of the Gurukul to host such a function. I know that the orphanage is in dire need of funds to support it's infrastructure, as well as it's Dharmic agenda.
Arya Samaj Scarborough, in Toronto, also hosted a similiar event to aid in raising funds. The event was planned and executed by Pandit Premnarain Gangadin Ji and his Pariwaar.
The event was well attended, and successful in it's mission, where approximately $ 2, 500.00 Canadian dollars was raised, at the one night event. This will help the Prabhu Sharan Orphanage tremendously.
If anyone on the forum would like to contribute towards this project, please post below, and I will provide the necessary information to do so.
Namaste,
Devo. |
