Prabhatji,
I got your difficulty. No problem. The Vedas are in essence knowledge. Vedas mean knowledge. To vid means to know. Knowledge is an attribute (guna). It cannot be imagined alone. It does not exist alone. It always resides or we can say it is always associated with a living = conscious thing. There must be a conscious entity as a substratum (dravya = supporting base = substance) of the Knowledge. God and Souls are such substratums. God knows everything. He wants to share a part of his knowledge to souls so that it can be helpful to souls for enjoyment of the highest order i.e. moksha = emancipation = final release. Souls are also conscious entity having inherent capacity to receive Knowledge from God or from any other external sources. In the beginning of the universe, God transmitted Vedas means required Knowledge to 4 Rishis. These Rishis acquired this Knowledge and given to other people. Thereafter many other learned & spiritual persons tried to understand the deep meanings of some particular chapters of the Vedas and after acquiring such hidden knowledge they transmitted – taught to others. This way the wisdom of Vedas has come down to us. Just for the memory of these great Rishis their names are mentioned in the Vedas afterwards.
Hope this will be of some help to you. |
